Waxing

Waxing is a temporary hair removal, referred as depilation. Some clients find that after regular waxing the hair become sparse, but it can return to normal if the treatments are stopped.
We use Lycon waxes for our treatments – it’s the range of products that we’ve found that work best for our clients.
We offer a full range of waxing for every body. At Buff & Bare, the minimum age for waxing is 16 and an adult (over 18) chaperone will need to stay in the room with you. Once you’re 18, no chaperone is required but you’re welcome to bring a friend to wait outside.
Every body, of every gender, is welcome at Buff & Bare. If you’re not sure whether waxing is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll ask you to complete a consultation form before your waxing appointment. We won’t treat you if you’re in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
To get the best waxing treatment, we recommend exfoliating at least three times a week and always on the day of your waxing appointment. Exfoliating away dead skin will allow the hair to be at the surface level and easier for the wax to grab on to. Do not exfoliate to point where your skin is sore – we’re happy to advise.
Ideally the hair on the area(s) you want waxed needs to be about the length of a grain of rice – about 3mm. Our Lycon waxes can remove 1mm long hair but it’s easier for it to be too long (we’ll trim it!) than that short.
Leave 3-4 weeks after your last wax or 2-3 weeks if you are a shaver.
Will it hurt?
Yes – but we do our best to make it as comfortable as possible, by using the latest waxing techniques and the best products on the market. The treatment times are allocated to take it at your pace. Once the treatment is over, you might feel slight sensitivity on the skin.
How much it hurts depends on your pain tolerance and the area being waxed.
The Process
Once you are on the waxing couch the area to be waxed will be cleansed, a small amount of oil will be applied on the skin to create a barrier between the skin and the wax.
You will need to remove your underwear for intimate waxing. We have been waxing for years and all we see is skin and hair – regardless of the body part!
Hot wax is mainly used for sensitive areas like bikini, underarms and facial area, as the hair in those areas are much stronger. Hot wax is applied thicker and it is higher in temperature. It sits on the skin, cools down and solidifies to be pulled off without a strip. The higher temperature helps to relax hair follicles and sedate nerve endings making it more comfortable experience.
Strip wax is applied in a very thin layer on the skin, a strip is then placed over the wax and it’s pulled off removing the hair. Strip wax is best for larger areas like legs and arms, where the hair is superficial and not so strong.
Different treatments take different amounts of time – and we schedule appointments so we can go at your pace.
Good to know
Will you wax me if I’m pregnant?
Yes – absolutely. From the point where you’re past 12 weeks until you’re due.
I’m off on holiday. When should I book my wax?
We recommend you allow at least 48 hours before you travel to allow the skin to settle.
What’s a female Brazilian?
Brazilian is when all the hair from your bikini areas (including inner labia, outer labia, centre of the bum) leaving a small amount of hair, shaped to your preference, on the pubic mound. Only hot wax is used for this treatment. Strip wax is used on the bum and leg area to tidy up.
What is a female Hollywood?
Another hot wax only treatment; a Hollywood is when all hair is removed from your bikini area including inner and outer labia, pubic mound, and centre of the bum.
What is a male Brazilian?
A full intimate men’s wax. All hair is removed from penis , scrotum and the centre of the bum with hot wax. The hair on the pubic mound is removed/shaped and/or trimmed. Strip wax is used to remove hair from the buttocks.
Can I wax on my period?
Yes, of course. You may be more sensitive than on other days and we’ll go at your pace. Use a clean tampon and let us know should you need a wipe to freshen up.
What about ingrowing hairs?
We recommend that you try to prevent ingrown hairs rather than dealing with it once it happens. We’re happy to advise you on the best exfoliation routines to help hairs pop through the skin rather than grow in.
After Care
After waxing your hair follicles will still be open and often tender.
For the 24 hours following;
- No tanning
- Avoid tight clothing – wearing tight clothing will lead to irritated skin. Sweating after your waxing treatment will increase a chance of infection
- No hot baths, steam or swimming – the hair follicles are open so going to the swimming pool will only invite everything and anything into the hair follicles to be absorbed. Any more heat on the waxed area will irritate the skin and possibly burn
- No gym – sweating will only increase a chance of infection
- No sex – friction will irritate the skin and may cause infection
- No sunbathing or sun beds
Some people with sensitive skin can experience some bruising after waxing. It’s really unusual but it can happen.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
