Electrolysis

Electrolysis hair removal is a method used to permanently remove unwanted hair from the body.
It involves the use of an electric current to destroy the hair follicles, preventing them from regrowing hair in the future..
Electrolysis can be quite time consuming as each hair follicle is treated individually. We suggest you come weekly initially so we can target each hair at exactly the right time and the appointment length can vary between 15 minutes and an hour – depending on how your skin reacts and what we’re aiming to achieve. The price will vary depending on the length of the appointment and how many appointments you need.
Everyone is welcome at Buff & Bare. If you’re not sure whether electrolysis is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you to assess your hair type, skin condition, and overall suitability for the treatment.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
When you come for a repeat appointment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment.
Will it hurt?
Most of our clients say electrolysis is moderately uncomfortable. Pain isn’t an exact science – some people feel more discomfort than others.
If you’re uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
Once you’re comfortable, we’ll insert a fine sterile probe into the hair follicle – without puncturing the skin.
Once the probe is inserted, a low-level electric current is applied to the follicle. The current may vary in intensity depending on the technique we’re using and your sensitivity. The current may be delivered in different ways, such as thermolysis (high-frequency current), galvanic (direct current), or blend (a combination of the two). If you want us to explain what these are – let us know!
Depending on the method we’re using for you, the electric current damages the hair follicle by either generating heat or producing a chemical reaction, This destruction prevents the hair follicle from producing new hair.
Once we’re done, we’ll remove the treated hair and go onto the next one. There’s no set pace at which we work – it depends on your skin and where we’re working.
After Care
After your electrolysis we perform a cataphoresis treatment on your skin. This helps restore the ph balance of the area we’ve treated, soothes the nerves, reduces inflamation, and can firm and tone the area by tightening follicles and pores.
Even after our treatment there may be some redness or swelling – some clients have found that applying an ice-pack to the affected area at home reduces these symptoms.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
