Laser & IPL Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses concentrated beams of light to remove unwanted hair from various parts of the body.
The process involves targeting the hair follicles with a specific wavelength of laser light, which damages the follicles and inhibits future hair growth.
You’ll need multiple sessions of treatment to get the best results. The laser targets the hair in the active growth stage so we need to perform the treatement at the right time in the hair growth cycle. Laser & IPL hair removal works well on both the face and body.
Every body is welcome at Buff & Bare. We find generally that people with fair skin and dark hair get the best results – so if you’re not sure whether laser hair removal is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to have a chat.
How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you to assess your hair type, skin condition, and overall suitability for the treatment.
Laser treatment targets the melanin pigment in hair. It does not work on grey/white hair (there’s no melanin in that to work on!). The greater the contrast between your hair and skin colour, generally, the better the results.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
We’ll ask you to sign an agreement for the treatment and carry out a small test patch.
When you come for each treatment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment.
Will it hurt?
The equipment and techniques we use are the best we’ve found at reducing pain and discomfort.
Some people describe it as feeling like the area has been flicked with an elastic band – so whilst it may be a little painful, it’s tolerable.
If you’re uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
Regardless of the area being treated, we’ll provide you with protective goggles and confirm what we’re planning to carry out in the treatment.
We’ll either be using our Trilogyice or Lynton Lumina machine for your treatment. Each has their own benefits and we’ll discuss this with you at the consultation stage.
The Trilogyice treatment involves moving the head of the device quickly over the area being treated – it works by damaging the hair follicles but not the skin around them. The applicator also cools the skin which makes the treatment more comfortable.
The Lumina treatment is one frequently found in NHS and private skin clinics and can work on a wider range of skin types, tones and concerns.
Appointments will range between 10 minutes and an hour depending on the area being treated.
After Care
After the treatment your skin may be red – with the follicles sometimes swollen and bumpy. This usually only lasts a few hours. Some people experience temporary changes in the colour of their skin or small blisters – however this is a rare occurance.
The treated hair will look as if it is ‘growing’ in the weeks following the treatment – until the new layer of skin pushes the treated hairs out. This is completely normal and usually takes between 1-3 weeks.
Treatment cycles are usually between 4 and 8 weeks (depending on your hair and skin) and it usually takes at least 6 appointments to treat an area fully.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
